Wind Energy Experience

WIND TURBINE ACCELERATED DECOMMISSIONING

⚲ Ireland

Working on behalf of the world’s leading renewable insurance broker, Rimkus was requested to assist the insured with claims preparation services for accelerated decommissioning of a wind turbine following a lightening strike. Our expert quantity surveyors considered the decommissioning methodology, requisite services, and marine spread, and provided a quantum estimate that took into consideration policy terms and conditions.

INTERCONNECTOR RISK ADVISORY REVIEW

⚲ United Kingdom and Europe

Rimkus carried out a risk review of a 725km HVDC interconnector cable running between the United Kingdom and Germany. Our scope was to conduct a risk review of the engineering documentation and construction methodology, and subsequently provide a risk summary to our client’s underwriting team for consideration of insurance terms to be offered.

DSU ANALYSIS MAJOR OFFSHORE WIND FARM

⚲ North Sea

A claim was made under the DSU policy of one of the United Kingdom’s largest fields housing more than 100 turbines, due to late delivery of the first initial jacket foundations during the T&I phase. Rimkus assessed the delay due to physical damage on the first in a series of jackets during trans-shipment. Our experts were able to effectively consider delay impact on schedule and actual incurred cost of work from expediting jackets currently under construction.

SEVERED EXPORT CIRCUIT CABLE

⚲ United Kingdom

An export circuit cable was severed during the system hand over phase. Rimkus was contracted to assess the damage on behalf of the insured, considering a claim against the terms of both the construction and operational policies. Since the wind farm in question was in final commissioning, our experts were asked to provide an opinion on the extent of the damage, cost of repairs, and under which policy a claim could reasonably be made.

EAST COAST MAJOR WIND FARM DEVELOPMENT

⚲ United States

Rimkus provided risk advisory services and an engineering review for a tier 1 insurance client looking at a 2.4GW wind farm development. Our experts provided opinion on risk exposures, project logistics, construction marine spread, natural exposures, and construction methodologies. The information and opinion provided by Rimkus was used by our client to form its opinion on the risk and terms of insurance offered.

EML ANALYSIS FOR WORLD’S DEEPEST FIXED BOTTOM WIND FARM

⚲ United Kingdom

Rimkus completed a full risk engineering review exercise for offtake assets of this Scottish deepwater fixed bottom wind farm. Considering the range of potential risk exposures, our experts derived a spectrum of probable failure scenarios with accompanying financial exposures for the physical damage component of a possible insurance claim.
